America’s Job Link Alliance Data Breach Investigation

Personal Information of Hundreds of Thousands of Persons Affected

Goldman Scarlato & Penny is investigating the theft of private information as a result of an American Job Link Alliance (“AJLA” or “Job Link”) data breach.

Job Link website users in Arkansas, Idaho, Illinois, Alabama, Arizona, Delaware, Kansas, Maine, Oklahoma and Vermont may be affected. If you established a Job Link account between March 2013 and March 14, 2017, you may have been harmed by the data breach.
Job Link’s website coordinates federal unemployment and workforce development programs and links job seekers with employers. Users of the AJLA website are required to provide their personal information, including name, date of birth, and Social Security number as part of the job-seeking process. That sensitive, personal information may have been stolen through the data breach.

The data theft was not an accident. According to reports, in mid-February, 2017, someone gained access to the personal information of other job-seekers by creating a “job-seeker account” on the database. According to AJLA, the “malicious third party ‘hacker’” “view[ed] names, Social Security Numbers and dates of birth of job seekers in the AJL systems of up to ten states.” Sensitive, personal information of this nature can be sold on the “dark web” and misused to open financial accounts, file fraudulent tax returns, or transfer funds from victims’ financial accounts. While AJLA claims that the website vulnerability has been resolved, that does not mean that information already stolen is not at risk.
